Test footage from Alien

Test footage from Alienwas way creepy, even with the xenomorph out of costume

You may remember that the titular xenomorph in Ridley Scott’s 1979 classicAlien was sometimes depicted by a man in a suit. Here’s test footage of 6’10” Nigerian actor Bolaji Badejo practicing his extraterrestrial motions. Even with a mock-up of the xenomorph’s head alone — and Badejo running around in his underwear — these reels remain unsettling.

For his only film role, Badejo — who was discovered in a London pub by a casting agent — studied miming, consulted H.R. Giger one-on-one to discuss the creature’s gait, and endured the sweltering latex suit, which he could only safely wear for 15-20 minutes at a time. You can see a picture of Badejo sans helmet below.

Badejo appeared in shots where the creature’s body was fully exposed. The suit’s banana-shaped head didn’t afford the actor a great deal of comfort or visibility, particularly when he donned the articulated special-effects helmet.

Prometheus viral introduces the evil Yutani corporation

The latest viral ad for Prometheus has actress Noomi Rapace begging for help from Weyland Industries. But if you look closely, you can see that the entire video phone call is being monitored by none other than the Yutani Company.

Alien super-fans know that eventually Weyland and Yutani will become Weyland-Yutani, whose motto is “Building Better Worlds!” But this brief glimpse at Rapace’s pitch reveals how Yutani gets its start. Did Yutani intercept this from Weyland Industries? Or were they hired out to analyze the footage?

The Alien’s of Prometheus in New Trailer!

We’ve heard a lot about how Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi epic Prometheus is different from his seminal 1979 classic Alien. But with the latest trailer they’re looking a lot more similar. Aliens!

Well, aliens—yes. But, not the classic xenomorph aliens we’ve been accustomed to over several decades of Alien sequels. Prometheus offers up a different flavor, with some humanoid style creatures, along with some weird little viper-style creepy crawlies.

It’s definitely a different take on the concept, but once those things start attacking, this feels more and more like it will still have a fair share of that classic Alien DNA (no pun intended).
