Christie’s “50 Years of James Bond” Auction!

Do you think you could pull off the tiny swimsuit Daniel Craig wore in “Casino Royal”? If so, you might like to know the swimsuit will be of one of the 50 James Bond related lots Christies auction house will auction off from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of James Bond!

The Auction, called “50 years of James Bond”, will take place entirely online with the exception of 10 additional lots to be auctioned off in a private, invitation only event at Christies in London on Oct. 5. “Christies is excited to be working directly with EON Productions to present this unique auction to mark the 50th anniversary of James Bond”. Nicolette Tomkinson, director of Christies stated in a press release about the event.

I for one find this very interesting! James Bond items are very coveted by collectors, and I love the idea, even though it’s a small amount of items, that only 50 will be auctioned off, one for each year of the franchise. This doesn’t necessarily mean a influx for the market, as these items will go to the highest bidder, and there are alot out there who will be throwing up there paddle for this one!

Michale Keton Lands Robocop Role!!!

Michale Keaton has landed a role in the new Robocop reboot that is currently in production. Keaton will replace Huge Laurie as OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellers, head of the company that build and funds Robocop.
“Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film, and it is so great to have the last puzzle  piece in place”, director Jose Padilha told The Hollywood reporter in a statement. “It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of Robocop to life”. We’ve got a great script,a  great cast, some killer ED-209s, and I cant wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.

Laurie, who recently finished his run on the TV show House, was in talks for the role, but pulled last week out of the negotiations. The original Robocop was directed by Paul Vaerhoeven, and stared Peter Weller in the title role. Joel Kinnaman will play the part in the reboot, which is being produced by MGM with Columbia Pictures. gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish and Jennifer Ehle also star in the film.

My new favorite series…S.H.I.E.L.D.!!!

Huge news that just came out way…ABC is going to make a S.H.I.E.L.D. show, and non other than The Avengers headliner Joss Wheadon is going to write, and possibly direct the pilot!

Deadline reported that ABC has given the go-ahead to begin work on Whedon’s show about S.H.I.E.L.D., the top secret organization that flies around in an invisible aircraft carrier. Many people had suspected this would happen after copious marketing behind the S.H.I.E.L.D.-centric short Item 47. And deadline says the series will continue it’s growing focus on the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Whedon’s brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will be joining Whedon on this project, plus the big guy might direct the pilot. No word on when we’ll see the pilot, or who has been cast, or even who the main characters will be, since Samuel L. Jackson is unlikely to star in a weekly TV series.

But my speculation, and this is more hope than speculation, is that Maria Hill, (Colby Smuthers) will be the lead, I mean come on, she took over for awhile in the books, her other TV series is coming to an end, and who better than her to take the lead in a show like this!

X-Men Prop Exhibition!

The original X-Men trilogy featured tons of special effects makeup, including special prosthetics that created the characters of Mystique, Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike, Sabertooth, Nightcrawler and Toad. This weekend see’s the opening of a brand new exhibition that showcases the work of Gordon Smith, who devised the prognostics and makeup for the first two X-Men films.

The free exhibition called “X-Men Master: Gordon Smith” is opening this weekend as part of the Toronto International Film Festival, at TIFF Bell Lighthouse’s Canadian Film Gallery. The exhibition focuses on how Smith revolutionized the industry, pioneering the use of advanced silicone makeup technology.

The items in the exhibit feature a full body plaster cast of Mystique with her wig apparatus, contact lenses and “applied body details” displayed separately, also included are:

Cylon Fett – As you wish helmet project

Here is another entry I couldn’t resist but post about, one because again, Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite properties, and two, our good friends over at Anovos created this fantastic helmet!

A cross between Boba Fett, and the original series Cylon Warrior from Battlestar, this helmet is outstanding, with a chrome finish, sweeping red eye, and Viper scoreboard on the side, this helmet is worthy of the name “Toaster’!

Will SyFy’s Blake’s 7 be as dark as Battlestar Galactica?

Syfy’s great success story Battlestar Galactica, the cheesball 1970’s space opera show that Ronald D. Moore brought back as a gritty, more serious look at the remnants of humanity trying to survive after a robot massacre. So now that SyFy is apparently picking up Blake’s 7, the 1970s British space opera, can the channel repeat that accomplishment?

According to Deadline, SyFy has ordered a pilot script for Heroes producer Joe Pokaski’s re-imagining of Terry Nation’s saga about a group of political dissidents and criminals facing a totalitarian galactic Federation. If SyFy likes the script, Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Green Lantern) will direct the pilot, and SyFy has already agreed that if the pilot gets filmed, so will another dozen episodes of the first season.

And the truth is, the original Blake’s 7 was already much much more fucked up than the original Battlestar Galactica, making it that much harder to do it justice to the concept in a modern framework. Besides the already mentioned elements of terrorism and an evil version of Star Trek’s Federation, consider the following:
1)A main character who’s been brainwashed to betray all his friends, and then falsely convicted of being a pedophile.

2)His sidekick is an immoral computer genius who’s willing to sacrifice everyone else’s life for his personal gain.

3)The “good guys” kill regularly and without hesitation, and are willing to make deals with drug lords and other scumbags for the cause.

4)Blake winds up being willing to throw the entire galaxy into starvation and chaos, just to overthrow it’s goverment

and that’s just scratching the surface.

The good news is, there’s plenty of stuff that could stand to be updated in the original series. The original series effects are terrible, the show sometimes drops plot lines and pretend they never existed. The show is frequently camptastic, and it’s best character- the evil; Servalan- is also kinda ludicrous at times.

So I guess the real question is weather SyFy si willing to try another “dark”  space opera, after Stargate Universe failed to inspire a huge audience. And whether Pokaski can do justice to all the dark political allegories that were already right there on the surface in the original series. And whether the Martin Campbell who directed Casino Royale can helm this pilot, instead of the Martin Campbell who directed Green Lantern.
